Bombardier to Refurbish 13 Class 69C Train Sets for Norwegian State
Railway
Refurbishment Contract Emphasizes Bombardier's Regional Leadership
Position
BERLIN, GERMANY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 11, 2007 -- Bombardier
Transportation has been commissioned by the Norwegian State Railway
(NSB) to refurbish 13 Class 69C train sets (39 vehicles).
This contract, valued at 22 million euros (approximately $ 30 million
US), is a demonstration of the trust that major rail way operators
put in Bombardier's refurbishment capabilities. It covers renewal of
external doors, passenger's seats, PIS (Passenger Information
System), HVAC and illumination in all compartments, as well as system
induction loop, luggage racks, toilet system, xenon head lights and a
complete repainting of both the interior and exterior of the
vehicles.
The Class 69C-vehicles were originally built in Bombardier's Strommen
site (Norway) between 1975 and 1977. The refurbishment will be
carried out at the same site, starting in October 2007 and ending
with the last vehicle being out back in service in May 2009.
Following a public tender, Bombardier has been selected by the NSB
for its unrivalled combination of comprehensive knowledge of the
vehicle's original design on the one hand and superior execution and
competitive prices for quality offering on the other.
Rik Dobbelaere, President Bombardier Transportation Services,
comments: "This contract represents a milestone in the relationship
of NSB and Bombardier. We have been working together on refurbishment
contracts in the past, yet not on this scale before. It emphasizes
Bombardier's regional leadership position and we are looking forward
to developing our relationship further."
Tor-Arne Stenhaug, Chief Country Representative Bombardier Norway
said: "This contract is a fine example of Bombardier's commitment.
With its advanced re-furbishing capabilities, Bombardier has the
ability to cost-effectively upgrade high-performing equipment and
systems that will last."
