PÖYRY TO PARTICIPATE IN DESIGN OF METROPOLITAN AREA RING RAIL LINE IN
FINLAND
Pöyry has been commissioned by the Finnish Rail Administration to
implement the design contracts of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Ring
Rail Line surface rail sections and three related stations. Pöyry's
share of the assignment amounts to about EUR 1 million.
The Ring Rail Line is an 18-kilometre rail connection to the
Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport. Once completed in 2014, it is
a major urban rail line with the potential to attract 200 000
residents and 200 000 commuters on a daily basis. Throughout the
Helsinki Metropolitan area, the development of public transport, and
rail traffic in particular, is playing an important role in improving
air quality.
The assignments include the design of a surface rail section
comprising approximately 10 kilometres, construction designs for
three stations and the design of technical systems. Pöyry is
implementing the project in cooperation with WSP Finland Oy. The
design will be completed in the autumn of 2010.
Pöyry has previously participated in compiling the general plan and
rail master plan for the rail line, and is currently involved in
construction planning for the Ring Rail Line tunnel and underground
stations.
