OP-Pohjola Group to establish a development unit in Oulu - challenging positions offered to eBusiness experts
OP-Pohjola Group is establishing a development unit in Oulu that will focus on
eBusiness and mobile applications for financial services in particular.
Moreover, a competence centre will be started up in Oulu related to the Group's
other ICT services. Operations will be started in stages, but eventually a total
of some 150 jobs will be created.
"Although the strategy change adopted by Nokia and the consequent subcontractor
solutions are shaking Finland, this can also be seen as a new beginning. We have
all the ingredients to create new Finnish success stories and to brain drain
from Finland. This is a window of opportunity for new business ideas and for
existing businesses to boost their technological expertise," says Reijo
Karhinen, Executive Chairman of OP-Pohjola Group.
"OP-Pohjola Group was first in Europe to launch online banking services in
1996. In the next wave of development, more and more banking and insurance
services will be made available through mobile devices. We want to make sure
that we will continue to be at the cutting edge of development," says Mr
Karhinen.
The decision to establish the Oulu development unit is in line with the Group's
strategic intent to invest in more innovative electronic services. Such services
will make banking and insurance services more flexible and easier to use. The
Group's objective is to offer an even better customer experience through a
selection of channels and in the form of real-time services.
Oulu and the region around it offer an excellent development environment to OP-
Pohjola Group. Oulu region boasts a vibrant and significant concentration of
know-how with decades of top technological expertise and good cooperation
between companies, the Oulu University and academic research institutions.
OP-Pohjola Group, Finland's largest financial services group, employed some
12,500 people at the end of 2010, with over 600 of them currently ICT experts.
