Heijmans commences work on widening the 's-Hertogenbosch - Eindhoven A2 motorway - a contract valued at over € 100 million

22 december 2011 Heijmans and the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management have completed the planning for work to commence on the widening of the A2 motorway between 's-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven. The A2 will be converted from 2 to 3 lanes in both directions over a distance of approximately 27 km. This project forms part of the Priority Package E that Heijmans already acquired at the end of 2009. The contract is valued at over € 100 million. The definitive realization is subject to the ruling of the Netherlands Council of State that will issue its decision in the spring of 2012. The work comprises all activities involved in implementing the widening, including earth reinforcement structures, sound barriers, pavement and technical installations. The integral contract will be carried out by Heijmans Roads and Heijmans Civil Engineering. The original value of the contract for this project has increased from € 66 million to over € 100 million due to the changes that were made in the context of the Infrastructure (Planning Procedures) Act, in particular in relation to noise-reduction measures. Work is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2012. Preparatory work is currently underway along this route and consists of the relocation of protected trees and other flora. The widened A2 will be opened to traffic on a phased basis during the period 2012/2013 and will make an important contribution to improving traffic circulation along this route between 's-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven, as well as along the 's-Hertogenbosch and the Eindhoven Ring Roads.
