Transmode named as a pioneer of MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0

Stockholm, Sweden - 30(th) January 2013 - Transmode, a global supplier of packet-optical networking solutions, today announced that it is one of the first vendors to be certified for the new Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) standard for advanced Ethernet services by the MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum). CE2.0 is the latest development from the MEF and extends the range of standardized services available from MEF certified products and enhances interconnect and multi-CoS capabilities that these can provide. Transmode supports CE2.0 as part of its Native Packet Optical 2.0 architecture which also includes support for MPLS-TP and OTN transport. Transmode's Native Packet Optical 2.0 architecture provides network operators with a packet-friendly network with industry-leading transport performance. The MEF announced the first wave of CE2.0 certificates at the MEF Americas Carrier Ethernet Summit and MEF Quarterly meeting in San Diego. The MEF standardisation program is extremely important for the industry as it allows operators to provide standardised services that are local, national or cross- regional using their own and third-party network infrastructure seamlessly with guaranteed and measureable quality levels. "I am delighted that Transmode has passed this new and highly rigorous testing program and has been announced in this first block of certified companies," said Sten Nordell, Transmode's Chief Technology Officer. "I am especially pleased that we passed this certification testing with the commercially available software for our products and we passed with no problems. This means that many of our customers are already running CE2.0 Certified Transmode products in their networks. Not many vendors are able to claim this outstanding achievement." Bob Mandeville President and Founder of test lab Iometrix, responsible for MEF's testing process, outlined the challenges of meeting the new exacting standards: "CE 2.0 is a difficult accreditation to achieve.  To be recognised as CE 2.0 certified, each company must pass a suite that totals 634 stringent tests. Over 155 companies are now certified for CE 1.0 and the adoption signs for 2.0 are exciting. The demand for certified products and services is a driving force, and we expect a significant increase in service provider certifications not only from established markets, but also from developing economies in 2013." Nan Chen, President of the MEF continued, "Next generation Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0), extends the original Carrier Ethernet remit with vital added features including multiple classes of service, greater manageability and easier interconnect for all eight standard service types, enabling new levels of efficiency for mobile backhaul, making it easier for a large number of access providers to join the Carrier Ethernet community and establish Carrier Ethernet as a business class cloud service carrier. The main market drivers continue to dominate business: bandwidth growth, mobile data and LTE migration and the growth of public and private cloud computing."
