Regional Healthcare Agency of Valencia, Spain, Deploys Xcalia(R) for
Data Access and Management Across 28 Regional Hospitals
New Orion Project to Upgrade Data Access and Health Information
Systems That Serve 9,000 Users and 5 Million Patients
PARIS and PALO ALTO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 22, 2007 --
Xcalia, a leading provider of dynamic integration software, today
announced that La Conselleria de Sanitat de la Generalitat Valenciana
(Conselleria de Sanitat), a large regional healthcare agency in
Valencia, Spain, has selected and deployed Xcalia Intermediation
Core(TM) (XIC) to manage its data services and access across all its
facilities.
Conselleria de Sanitat serves more than five million people through
28 hospitals in Spain. As part of a four-year strategic IT project,
called Orion, the organization planned to re-engineer its
heterogeneous business application and data management infrastructure
to provide integration between the systems for the first time, as
well as support e-prescriptions, inventory, logistics, purchasing,
stock maintenance and human resources management functions.
While it made sense for Conselleria de Sanitat to deploy packaged
applications for its hospital administration group at headquarters,
the Orion team determined that it needed to create its own Java-based
application infrastructure to support the clinical group. This was
largely due to the complexity of the applications that support the
clinics that required advanced security, privacy, compliance and risk
management, and also be able to provide multiple user views across
multiple sites. Consequently, Conselleria de Sanitat decided that the
scope of this project warranted leading-edge data management
technology and selected a Java Data Objects (JDO) standards-based
approach that would provide an object-oriented language to work with
their databases, and enable further development of its services
oriented architecture.
After narrowing the vendor list down to two firms, Conselleria de
Sanitat chose Xcalia. "Because the data management piece was so
strategic to our organization, we needed to have the most advanced
technology available to address our complex data access and
management challenges," said Ricardo Garcia Mataix, technical
coordinator of the Orion Project, Conselleria de Sanitat. "We were so
pleased with the speed and ease of implementation of Xcalia on our
first project that we've decided to implement XIC at 27 more
hospitals. The return on investment will be recognized over the
course of the project as a result of faster development cycles."
Xcalia Intermediation Core is a service-oriented software platform
which utilizes a new approach to creating and managing composite
applications and their modern and legacy data resources.
Intermediation is a patented infrastructure layer that sits between
the business model and the data/service resources that enables
composite applications to be assembled faster and easier to meet
changing business demands. This capability enables interoperability,
faster development and deployment of applications and services, and
reduced cost of SOA, legacy integration and migration projects.
"We are pleased to be working with Conselleria de Sanitat, and to
solve the near-term and future data management challenges for one of
the most forward-thinking healthcare organizations in Europe," said
Pierre Violo, CEO of Xcalia. "Conselleria de Sanitat's Orion project
is a great example of how large, distributed organizations with
complex computing and application environments can leverage Xcalia's
data and service management solution to better serve customers, and
also reduce development time and overall IT costs."
Ricardo Garcia Mataix added, "XIC is a very powerful, strategic
solution that helped us reach our goals and the support we received
was beyond expectation; it has been a very positive experience. Even
though Xcalia is in France and we are in Spain, we feel that we have
a very close technology partnership."
