's-Hertogenbosch - Heijmans Infrastructure is introducing a new
approach to soil remediation, referred to as Solid Ground. The
approach involves the cleanup of soil at a pre-determined price,
regardless of any unexpected additional costs. The concept is
suitable for the redevelopment of lands within inner cities and for
the purchase and sale of properties. Project and property developers
in particular should be able to profit from this approach.
With the Solid Ground approach, Heijmans identifies the risks ahead
of time and provides the client with a guarantee in terms of the end
result: a clean parcel that can safely be developed, in the present
as well as the future. First, a quick scan is carried out of the
location that is supposedly polluted. In case of doubt, a
supplementary soil analysis is carried out to more clearly identify
the risks involved. This may be required in order to obtain assurance
about the best possible remediation method to be used. Furthermore,
Heijmans provides a guarantee that the project will be properly
carried out.
The application of the Solid Ground principle allows soil analysis
and remediation to be carried out more quickly and cost-effectively.
Following analysis and agreement, Heijmans assumes the risks, such as
rising costs or unexpected pollution requiring cleanup, from the
client. By collaborating and participating in the thinking process
with project developers at an early stage of the remediation process,
Heijmans can execute the procedure, as well as the actual cleanup,
faster and cheaper.
Approximately ¤500 million is spent in the Netherlands on various
soil remediation projects every year. These projects involve the
excavation, cleanup and replacement of approximately one million
cubic metres of soil spread across an estimated 1,200 sites. Across
the entire country, there are 14,000 large and smaller parcels that
are subject to cleanup. This includes old factory sites and dumping
grounds, for example. A large-scale cleanup can be a stumbling block
to the implementation of building plans because it can delay a
project or significantly increase its costs.
Solid Ground is consistent with Heijmans' strategy and objective of
becoming a full-service property development, building and
infrastructure construction company. As such, the company strives to
be involved in all stages of a construction project. Solid Ground
means that Heijmans is part of the team as a partner from the very
beginning to ensure that soil issues and cleanups are smoothly dealt
with as part of the overall development project. The project team
consists of a project manager, a soil technologist, a designer, an
expert on permits and an expert in the area of waste streams.
Heijmans Infra Techniek (HIT; Heijmans Infrastructure Engineering) is
