Veidekke Eiendom AS has awarded Veidekke Entreprenør AS the contract to build
the first stage of the housing project "Konfektfabrikken" at Rodeløkka. The
contract comprises the construction of 84 flats suitable for families and 180
parking spaces. The total sale value of the first stage is NOK 260 million.
The property has been used by Freia to manufacture chocolate since 1889, but a
few years ago production was moved to the neighbouring property. Veidekke
Eiendom bought the property in 2007, and the disused factory building is
currently being demolished. Excavation and piling for the new building will
commence in the beginning of January and the building is to be completed in the
third quarter of 2012.
The 84 flats in the first stage will range in size from 48 m(2) to 108 m(2),
with more than half larger than 80 m(2). So far, 57 of the flats have been sold,
and planning of the next stage with 50 flats is well under way. When the project
is completed it will comprise approx. 250 homes over five storeys, two
underground parking levels and a day care centre.
"Amongst others, it is families with children who want to live centrally and
have access to safe outdoor an play areas that have bought flats. It is not very
often we have the chance to develop a completely new city block with an great
outdoor area of 2,500 m(2) that is reserved for the residents," says project
developer Tor Nordstrøm of Veidekke Eiendom.
