Kesko's sustainable development awards for 2011 are open for application

KESKO CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 10.01.2011 AT 10.00 1(1) Kesko will distribute €30,000 in recognition awards to promoters of sustainable development. The awards can be applied for by firms, societies and individuals who have worked for sustainable development in teaching, research, training, publication, product development or organisational work, for example. We also want to encourage young people to generate ideas for future options and will present one of the awards to the age group of 13-20 years. The recipient may be an individual young person, a school class or some other group of young people. The theme is material efficiency Kesko has distributed sustainable development awards for six times, most recently in 2008. The theme for 2011 awards is material efficiency. Material-efficient operations save natural resources, the environment and money. The 2011 awards will be directed to ideas and actions which reduce waste generation and improve waste recovery. Members of the jury After receiving the applications, the jury will make a decision on how to divide the total sum. The jury will be chaired by Paavo Moilanen, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Responsibility of Kesko. The members will be Henrik Österlund, Head of the Material Efficiency unit at Motiva, Jyri Seppälä, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke), Minna Halme, Professor at Aalto University School of Economics, and Leo Stranius, secretary-general of the Finnish Nature League.
