Neste Oil to make significant safety-related investments at its Porvoo and
Naantali refineries
Neste Oil is to invest approximately 60 million euros in 2012Â to improve safety
at its Porvoo and Naantali refineries.
Investments will focus on further improving process, fire, and personnel safety
by modernizing process automation and automated safety systems. The latter are
autonomous systems that are capable of automatically taking over control of a
process in the event of equipment malfunction, for example, and ensuring that
operations remain safe at all times.Two process furnaces will also be replaced
at Naantali, and new, safer office space for personnel will be built at Porvoo
and the fire water system improved.
"Safety is a very important issue for us and one that we give constant priority
to," says Jonas Liimatta, Neste Oil's Manager, Process, Occupational and Fire
Safety. "It is very important that we have modern and efficient systems in place
to ensure safe operations. We also give extensive and proactive safety training
both to our own personnel and our contractors as part of our commitment to
creating an industry-leading safety mindset at Neste Oil."
Neste Oil's new automation and safety systems will be supplied by Finnish-based
Metso, with which Neste Oil has recently signed a new framework contract.

doing so," says Liimatta.
